The Online Cyber Challenge took place using Cympire’s Cywaria platform – a cloud native, flexible, fully gamified cyber simulator. The platform allows running various red or blue cybersecurity scenarios and allows trainees to combat the true-to-life attacks using real cybersecurity tools and systems, all from any location using nothing but their internet browser. In the STAR CERT event, participants competed in a defense scenario as analysts in an insurance company’s SOC team, attacked by the sophisticated “Black Dragon” hacker group.
Before the hands-on training, participants attended an online lecture by Karine Ben-Simhon, Manager at CERT-IL, Israel National Cyber Directorate, who portrayed the modern cybersecurity threat landscape, the human challenges in the space and how the INCD approaches these challenges.
“We are proud to cooperate with Italy’s GCSEC, Brinthesis and Israel’s National Cyber Directorate in this special event”, said Yaniv Shachar, Cympire’s CEO. “We would also like to thank the Israeli Trade and Investment Office and Marco Macchi especially for their support. With many cybersecurity conferences getting cancelled due to the COVID-19 crisis, we are happy to fill that void with our cloud-native platform which allows effective training from any location. We look forward to continued cooperation with the great partners we’ve met in this event”.
“GCSEC is running CERT STAR since 2019, an initiative of “hands on labs” for CERTs and SOCs operators with the aims of increasing the knowledge and the expertise in Cyber Security. Major industries and critical infrastructures companies participate in these labs. We were very proud to host the first blue team challenge with Cympire and thanks to the alliance with them we will continue to exercise ours champions in order to increase and build the national resilience”.
